Tony Pena and Chad Qualls each gave up a run in the eithth and ninth inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks blew a one run lead and lost to the San Francisco Giants by the score of 4-3.  It was too bad that the bullpen couldn’t hold things down and get Randy Johnson a win as he pitched pretty good.

Qualls gave up the game winning home run in the top of the ninth inning to Randy Winn as he took the loss and is now 0-5 on the season.  In the eighth inning, it was Pena walking Fred Lewis with the bases loaded that scored the third run for the Giants and tied the game.

Johnson had thrown seven innings of six hit baseball while giving up two runs in the game.  He was in line to get the win but the bullpen just couldn’t do their job.

Justin Upton had a solo home run and rbi triple to lead the Diamondbacks at the plate with two rbi.  Conor Jackson also had a rbi on a single in the fourth inning.

It was just a bad series for the Diamondbacks as they were swept by the Giants.  Can the D-backs bounce back this weekend as they take on the Washington Nationals?

Well that was a bad game all around for the Arizona Diamondbacks as they lost to the San Francisco Giants 11-3 on Wednesday night.  The fifth and sixth innings were like a dagger in the hear of the Diamondbacks as the Giants blew the game wide open with four runs in each of the innings.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Doug Davis was roughed up for nine hits and six runs in only five innings of action.  Davis served up a grand slam to Ray Durham before being taken out of the game.  Davis’s record is now 2-2 on the season.

The Diamondbacks bullpen wasn’t much better than Davis however.  Juan Cruz gave up three runs before leaving the game with a sore neck, Doug Slaten and Edgar Gonzalez both gave up one run before Brandon Lyon was finally able to come in and pitch a scoreless inning.

Mark Reynolds had a solo home run in the eighth inning for the Diamondbacks.  Other then that it was a two-run double by Justin Upton in the sixth inning that scored the other two runs for the D-backs.

Overall it was just a bad game for the Diamondbacks, and hopefully they will come out on Thursday afternoon and pick up a win against these same Giants.

Wow, you can call that a disappointing series as the Arizona Diamondbacks were swept by the Florida Marlins.  The series was a matchip between two divsion leaders but it was all Marlins in all three games.

On Thursday night the Marlins shut out the Diamondbacks by the score of 4-0.  The Diamondbacks just couldn’t get going even though they had seven hits in the game.

Dan Haren pitched 6 1/3 innings as he took the loss and dropped his record to 5-3 on the season.  Haren gave up eight hits and four runs in the game.

With the sweep, the Diamondbacks are now 28-19 on the season.  Diamondbacks Blog

The Arizona Diamondbacks fell to the Florida Marlins by the score of 3-2 as the two division leaders battled on Tuesday night.  The Diamondacks just didn’t get the big hit that they needed to late in the ball game.

Micah Owings dropped to 5-2 on the season as he took the loss.  Owings didn’t pitch too badly but he did give up seven hits and three runs through seven innings of action.  Tony Pena pitched a scoreless eighth innign in relief of Owings.

Conor Jackson had a sac fly and Chris Snyder had a solo home run for the Diamondbacks runs.  No other batter stepped up in the game to provide the big hit late in the game.

Brandon Webb is on fire!  Webb is now 9-0 after beating the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night.  Webb gave up six hits and three runs over 7 1/3 innings but it was good enough to still get the victory as the Diamondbacks won 8-5.

Doug Slaten, Chad Qualls, Brandon Medders, and Brandon Lyon all pitched in relief of Webb.  Medders had some trouble as he gave up two runs, but then Lyon came in to get the save.  Lyon is now up to 12 saves on the season.

Chris Snyder had the big hit for the Diamondbacks as he hit a three run home run in the fifth inning.  Snyder led the D-backs with three rbi in the game.  Orlando Hudson and Justin Upton both had two rbi.  Stephen Drew made the rbi column as well as he had one rbi.

The Diamondbacks are now 26-15 in the season as they are playing really good baseball.  They will try to continue playing good this weekend as they play the struggling Detroit Tigers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have the Colorado Rockies number right now as once again they beat the Rockies.  The Diamondbacks did have to hang on in the late innings however as the Rockies made a nice comeback but still feel short by one run as the Diamondbacks won 4-3.

Micah Owings pitched six innings of shutout baseball to get the win.  He only allowed five hits in his six innings of action and he lowered his era to 3.81.  Owings is now 5-1 on the season.

Things got a little messy in the Diamondbacks bullpen as Chad Qualls, Doug Slaten, and Tony Pena all gave up one run in relief.  Brandon Lyon was able to come into the game in the ninth inning and secure the game as he picked up his 11th save of the season.  Lyon did have some trouble as well as he gave up two hits, but he got out of the jam unlike the other three relief pitchers.

Orlando Hudson led the Diamondbacks with a two run double in the fifth inning.  Conor Jackson had a rbi single as well for the D-backs.  The other run came off a double play by Eric Byrnes so no rbi was awarded.

The Arizona Diamondbacks score three runs in each of the first two innings against Jeff Francis and the Colorado Rockies and then they went onto beat the Rockies 8-4.  The Diamondbacks put a lot of pressure on Francis in the game and they scored all eight runs off of him in only 4 2/3 innings.

I love to see the offense come out and score runs like that early in the ball game.  The three runs in the first inning all came on singles that scored one run each.  Orlando Hudson, Conor Jackson, and Mark Reynolds all had rbi singles in the first inning.

In the second inning, it was Stephen Drew connecting on a three run home run to score all three runs for the Diamondbacks.  It was Drew’s fifth home run of the season.  The Diamondbacks then scored one run in the fourth and and fifth innings as they extended their lead.  Hudson had another rbi single in the fourth inning while Chris Burke had a rbi single in the fifth inning when he was pitch hitting for Randy Johnson.

Speaking of Johnson, he picked up his third win of the season as he improved to 3-1.  Johnson tossed five innings of baseball as he gave up nine hits and four runs.  He did give up one home run but it was a solo home run so it didn’t hurt too bad.

Juan Cruz, Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and, Brandon Lyon all got a inning of action in the game.  All four pitchers did a great job and held the Rockies to zero runs.

The Arizona Diamondbacks finished off the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 on Thursday afternoon as they beat the Phillies two out of three games in their three game series.

Brandon Webb improved to 8-0 on the season as he tossed a complete game.  Webb allowed six hits and three runs in the game.  He was cruising along until the ninth inning when he gave up two runs to the Phillies.  Webb still has a 2.41 era after giving up the three runs though.

Chris Young and Justin Upton both hit home runs for the Diamondbacks.

Chris Snyder had two rbi in the game as did young.  Augie Ojeda, Mark Reynolds, Chris Burke, and Upton all had one rbi each in the game.

The Diamondbacks will now travel to Chicago to take on the slumping Chicago Cubs in a three game series starting on Friday.  Diamondbacks Blog

The Arizona Diamondbacks blew two different leads and lost to the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 5-4 on Wednesday night.  It was really a game that the Diamondbacks should have won as they out hit the Phillies 13-7 and had the better starting pitching performance.

Chad Qualls only pitched 2/3’s of an inning and gave up two hits and two runs to take the loss.  Qualls is now 0-3 on the season.  Diamondbacks starting pitcher Micah Owings pitched the first seven innings of the game and gave up four hits and three runs to get the no decision.  Owings did give up a two run home run that raelly hurt him and the Diamondbacks.

Chris Young had a solo home run in the fifth inning for the Diamondbacks only home run in the game.  Conor Jackson who was celebrating his birthday led the team with two rbi before leaving the game after colliding with Shane Victorino in the eighth inning.  Jackson said he was just a little dizzy but will be fine.  Stephen Drew and Young both had one rbi in the game.

Randy Johnson pitched six inning and allowed four runs while the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 6-4 on Tuesday night.  With the win, Johnson improved to 2-1 on the season.

Johnson gave up six hits and four runs including two home runs in his six innings of action.  He still need to locate the ball a little better but I think he will get that location back as he gets a few more innings of action.  Brandon Lyon picked up his tenth save of the season as he closed the door on the Phillies in the ninth inning.

Stephen Drew had the big hit for the Diamondbacks when he hit a three run home run in the fourth inning that put that Diamondbacks ahead for good.  He said he knew he got a good swing on it, but didn’t think it would be a home run.   Well it sure was a home run and proved to be the game winning hit for the D-backs.  Chris Young, Conor Jackson, and Randy Johnson all had one RBI in the game as well.

With the win the Diamondbacks are at 22-11 on the season.  Diamondbacks Blog
