As a longtime fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks, following the 2011 season has been pure enjoyment — especially the part that involves my squad winning 77 games by the back end of August. I realize there’s still plenty of baseball left to play, and the defending champs remain…

The Colorado Rockies banged out one hit after another, with four players getting three each. The problem was moving those guys around. Colorado racked up 13 hits, but stranded nine runners on the bases, leading to a 9-4 loss to the NL West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. “The difference in the game obviously lies, from the standpoint that we had just as much traffic out there as…

Once he stopped trying to be perfect, Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Daniel Hudson started to roll. Hudson threw seven shutout innings and Ryan Roberts homered to help the Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 on Monday night for their seventh straight win. “I was fighting myself early on and trying to make too perfect a pitch,” said Hudson, who needed more than 60 pitches to…

Aaron Harang had pretty good stuff, probably enough to stretch his unbeaten streak on the road. One pitch and one bad pickoff attempt spoiled it for San Diego’s big right-hander. Harang lost for the first time in 10 road starts after giving up a two-run homer to Chris Young and another run on his throwing error in the Padres’ 3-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.

Kicking off an important homestand, the NL West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks wanted to be aggressive early, hopefully put some pressure on San Diego to keep their momentum going. Arizona did just that — got some plenty of help from the Padres, too. Josh Collmenter pitched effectively into the sixth inning and the Diamondbacks took advantage of San Diego’s shaky defense to beat the Padres 5-0…

The San Diego Padres were on nice little roll heading into the desert, were hoping to build a little momentum toward the end of the season. They never got the chance, thanks to some uncharacteristically bad defense. One of baseball’s best defensive teams the second half of the season, the Padres had three errors in the first two innings, leading to all of Arizona’s runs in a 5-0 loss to the…
