The Arizona Diamondbacks picked up a huge win Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. The D-backs were victorious by the score of 4-2 as they moved within two games of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division. Any win is a big one as the D-backs are in the final week of the season.

Brandon Webb was the winning pitcher as he tossed seven innings and limited the Cardinals to just two runs on eight hits. Webb was good as he had six strike outs and only walked two batters. Brandon Lyon and Chad Qualls both allowed hits in their inning of action each, but they did not allow a run to score which was the big thing.

Stephen Drew led the team by going 3-4 with a rbi double and a solo home run. Conor Jackson and Chad Tracy both added rbi’s of there own in the game as well. It wasn’t the best offensive performance for the d-backs but it was enough to get the win.

So they D-backs have six games left in the regular season and they are down two games in the division to the Dodgers. Do you think they will catch them?

The Arizona Diamondbacks got a scare in the ninth inning but they were able to hold off the San Francisco Giants for the victory. The 7-6 victory over the Giants and the Dodgers loss, puts the D-backs 3.5 games back in the division with 10 games to go in the season.

Brandon Webb picked up his 21st win of the season as he tossed eight inning and only gave up three runs on eight hits. Webb walked two batters and struck out two others in the game. He let his defense help him out rather then trying to strike everyone out.

Doug Slaten had some trouble in the ninth inning as he was charged with two runs. Tony Pena tried to clean up the mess but he was charged with one run as well. Luckily for Pena and the D-backs he was able to get the final two outs of the game via the groundball and the Diamondbacks won.

B.J. Upton and David Eckstein both hit home runs for the D-backs. Upton’s was a two-run shot while Eckstein’s was a solo home run. Brandon Webb had a nice two-run double as well in the game. The rbi tab finished up with Stephen Drew and Conor Jackson both finishing with one rbi each.

Diamondbacks need another win on Thursday night over the Giants however it will be tough as they face off against Tim Lincecum. Diamondbacks Blog

It was not a very good game by the Arizona Diamondbacks but they were able to defeat the Washington Nationals by the score of 2-0 on Tuesday night.  The D-backs were lucky they were playing the Nationals and not a good team or else they would have lost more then likely.

The Diamondbacks scored two runs but only on four hits.  Chris Young had a rbi single in the third inning and then Mark Reynolds scored in the sixth inning on a Nationals error by their center fielder.  The offense struggled against the bad Nationals pitching staff.  I expect them to swing the bat better on Wednesday.

Brandon Webb was awesome however as threw six innings to pick up his 13th win of the season.  Webb is now 13-4 on the year after getting the win.  Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and Brandon Lyon all threw one inning of relief.  Lyon grabbed his 19th save of the season.

A win is a win no matter how ugly it is however.  You and I will take them anyway the team can get them.

Brandon Webb had his worst start of the season as he only pitched 3 1/3 innings after giving up nine hits and seven runs while walking five batters and giving up two home runs.  It was an old fashioned butt kicking put on my the A’s.

Besides Webb giving up seven runs, Edgar Gonzalez and Tony Pena gave up one run each.  Brandon Lyon gave up four runs on two home runs, and Doug Slaten gave up two more runs on a home run.  Once the game was finally over the A’s had hit six home runs off the Diamondbacks pitchers.  You can’t win a game pitching like that!

Well, I you also can’t win very many games when you only score one run in the game like what happened as well.  The Diamondbacks had all sorts of problems at the plate as they only scored one run in the game.  That one run came in the fifth inning when Gonzalez grounded into a fielders choice and Mark Reynolds scored.

The D-backs will try to get back on track against the A’s on Wednesday.  It is hard to tell which Diamondbacks team will show up.  Hopefully they good one so we have something positive to blog about.

The Arizona Diamondbacks lost 5-3 to the New York Mets in 13 innings on Wednesday night.  The Diamondbacks rallied late in the ninth inning and tied the game when third baseman Mark Reynolds hit a three run homer of Mets’ closer Billy Wagner.  However, the Mets would prevail in this one. 

The Diamondbacks had Brandon Webb on the mound.  Webb gave up three runs, all coming in the fourth inning.  He left the game after going 5 innings, giving up 5 hits, three earned runs and four strikeouts.  Webb was hit in the hip by a ball off the bat of Carlos Delgado in the midst of the fourth inning.  He pitched a scoreless fifth, but was removed for a pinch hitter in the top of the 6^th.

Mets starter Mike Pelfrey had the best start of his young career last night, he held the Diamondbacks’ scoreless in his 8+ innings of works, recording eight strikeouts.  However, he did give up a lead off single to Stephen Drew, at the juncture, Pelfrey left the game and it was the Diamondback’s lucky day.  Billy Wagner came in and tried to close the game out for the Mets.  Orlando Hudson was the first batter he faced, he got him to strike out swinging, Connor Jackson hit a double to centerfield and Drew advanced to third.  Mark Reynolds fell behind in the count when Wagner blew two fastballs by him but, he fouled off the third fastball, then took the slider in the dirt-which appeared to have hit his foot, but after some discussion they home plate umpire did not call it, it looked like the Mets caught a break, however on the next pitch Wagner left a fastball  out over the plate and Reynolds hit it over the fence in left center field to tie the game at three and send it to extra innings. 

With the game tied at three and Edgar Gonzales pithing his second inning in relief, with one out, Luis Castillo reached base on a fielding error by Mark Reynolds.  Gonzales was able to retire David Wright on a popout to first baseman Chad Tracy.  So, with two out Carlos Beltran came to bat and after fouling off two pitches hit a two run walk off homer to win the game for the Mets 5-3.   

The Diamondbacks will have Dan Harren on the mound, and the Mets will counter with   Johan Santana in the rubber game of the series, first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.  The Diamondbacks will return home to start their interleague series with the Kansas City Royals.

The Diamondbacks traveled to Shea Stadium on Tuesday to take on the New  York Mets.  While the Diamondbacks are currently in first place in the NL West, they are not a great road team compiling a 13-18 road record this season.  When the Diamondbacks last saw the Mets they had a 20-8, the lost 2-3 to the Mets and since then are 14-22.  After a fast start, the Diamondbacks as a team are hitting .251 and are struggling to consistently put runs on the board; they still hold first place in the NL West as everyone else in division is playing .500 baseball.  However, the best thing to happen to the Diamondbacks’ offense was Mets pitching.  The Diamondbacks as a team had four homeruns in their 9-5 win over the Mets.  

Micha Owings started the game for the Diamondbacks.  In his last outing Owings was rocked for four earned runs off eight hits before leaving the game after three innings.  Owings has had two starts against the Mets and has a 0-1 record with a 6.94 era in those two games and didn’t fare much better in Tuesday night’s start.  In 41/3 innings he gave up 5 runs, four earned, on 8 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.  Owings who averages 2.6 walks per nine innings had give up two walks in the first inning of the game.  He was not sharp and lucky for him, neither were any of Mets pitchers.   

The Diamondbacks scored a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.  John Maine gave up a long home run to Orlando Hudson in the top of the fifth to cut the Mets lead 5-3.   In the sixth inning with Mets reliever Claudio Vargas on the mound, the Diamondback’s would score two runs and tie the game.   Vargas walked the lead off man before hitting  Justin Upton with a pitch, Jeff Salazar’s ground out allowed the runners to advance to second and third, with the tying runs on, Augie Ojeda drove them in when he hit a line drive that eluded the glove of Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado and landed in right field.  Ojeda would advance to second on the throw by Endy Chavez, but was stranded there when Chris Young flied out to end the inning. 

In the top of the seventh, with weather reports showing that rain was near and with the wind picking up at Shea Stadium, the Umps suspended play and the Mets grounds crew secured the tarp on the field.  The rain delay would last one hour.  When play resumed, the Diamondbacks took the lead on a homerun by Chris Snyder off Met’s reliever Joe Smith.  In the top of the ninth inning the Diamondbacks scored three more runs when Duaner Sanchez gave up a two run homer to Stephen Drew and a solo shot to Conner Jackson.   

The Diamondbacks will have Brandon Webb on the mound tonight, and he will be opposed by Mets starter Mike Pelfrey.  Game time is set for 7:10 p.m.

Brandon Webb is on fire!  Webb is now 9-0 after beating the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night.  Webb gave up six hits and three runs over 7 1/3 innings but it was good enough to still get the victory as the Diamondbacks won 8-5.

Doug Slaten, Chad Qualls, Brandon Medders, and Brandon Lyon all pitched in relief of Webb.  Medders had some trouble as he gave up two runs, but then Lyon came in to get the save.  Lyon is now up to 12 saves on the season.

Chris Snyder had the big hit for the Diamondbacks as he hit a three run home run in the fifth inning.  Snyder led the D-backs with three rbi in the game.  Orlando Hudson and Justin Upton both had two rbi.  Stephen Drew made the rbi column as well as he had one rbi.

The Diamondbacks are now 26-15 in the season as they are playing really good baseball.  They will try to continue playing good this weekend as they play the struggling Detroit Tigers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks finished off the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 on Thursday afternoon as they beat the Phillies two out of three games in their three game series.

Brandon Webb improved to 8-0 on the season as he tossed a complete game.  Webb allowed six hits and three runs in the game.  He was cruising along until the ninth inning when he gave up two runs to the Phillies.  Webb still has a 2.41 era after giving up the three runs though.

Chris Young and Justin Upton both hit home runs for the Diamondbacks.

Chris Snyder had two rbi in the game as did young.  Augie Ojeda, Mark Reynolds, Chris Burke, and Upton all had one rbi each in the game.

The Diamondbacks will now travel to Chicago to take on the slumping Chicago Cubs in a three game series starting on Friday.  Diamondbacks Blog

Brandon Webb faced the San Francisco Giants once again, and again the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Giants and Webb picked up the victory.  Webb beat Barry Zito once again and improved his record to 5-0 on the season.  The Diamondbacks and Webb sure are off to a hot start.

Webb tossed six innings and gave up nine hits and three earned runs.  He did strikeout seven batters while walking two.

Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and Brandon Lyon all pitched one inning in relief.  Lyon picked up the save which was is fifth of the season.

Chris Snyder and Webb both had two RBI for the D-backs.  Eric Byrnes also had one RBI.

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon by the score of 4-1.  After dropping the first game of the series to the Giants, the Diamondbacks came back to win the next two games in the series.  The Diamondbacks are now 11-4 on the series.

Once again Brandon Webb was a dominate pitcher for the Diamondbacks as he improved to 4-0 on the season.  Webb pitched eight strong innings and only gave up the one earned run.  Webb only gave up three hits on the day and struckout five batters while walking two.

Brandon Lyon closed the game out in the ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season.

At the plate for the Diamondbacks it was actually Webb who led the team in RBI as he had a two-run single in the second inning of the game.  Eric Byrnes had one RBI on a ground rule double in the fifth inning and then Orlando Hudson scored Chris Young in the fifth inning on a single to center.

The Diamondbacks will open up a series with the San Diego Padres on Friday.  Big divisional gams coming up, it will be fun to see how they do against the Padres.
