The Arizona Diamondbacks picked up a huge win Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. The D-backs were victorious by the score of 4-2 as they moved within two games of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division. Any win is a big one as the D-backs are in the final week of the season.

Brandon Webb was the winning pitcher as he tossed seven innings and limited the Cardinals to just two runs on eight hits. Webb was good as he had six strike outs and only walked two batters. Brandon Lyon and Chad Qualls both allowed hits in their inning of action each, but they did not allow a run to score which was the big thing.

Stephen Drew led the team by going 3-4 with a rbi double and a solo home run. Conor Jackson and Chad Tracy both added rbi’s of there own in the game as well. It wasn’t the best offensive performance for the d-backs but it was enough to get the win.

So they D-backs have six games left in the regular season and they are down two games in the division to the Dodgers. Do you think they will catch them?

The Arizona Diamondbacks only needed two swings of the bat to beat the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. Justin Upton and Adam Dunn both hit home runs off of Giants starting pitcher Brad Hennessey to give the D-backs a 3-1 victory. With the win, the Diamondbacks are now 4.5 games out of first place as the Dodgers continue to play good baseball.

Dunn’s two-run blast came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the game was tied 1-1. Dunn came up huge for the D-backs and they need a lot more of that in the next week and a half if they want any shot at catching the Dodgers.

Doug Davis tossed seven strong innings while only allowed one run to cross the plate. The one run scored on an error by centerfielder Chris Young so it was unearned. Tony Pena tossed a scoreless eighth inning before turning things over to Chad Qualls in the ninth inning. Pena ended up with the win and is now 2-2 while Qualls picked up his fourth save of the season.

The D-backs pretty much need to win all their remaining games to have a shot at catching the Dodgers. I don’t think they will do it but you never know. Just look back to the New York Mets of last year when they faded during the last week of the season. So do you think they will catch the Dodgers? Leave us a comment and let us know!

The Arizona Diamondbacks came back with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Conor Jackson and Adam Dunn both came up huge in bottom of the ninth inning as they both had rbi’s in the inning. It was a big win as the D-backs took two out of three games against the Cardinals.

In the ninth, Jackson started thins off with a rbi single that scored Stephen Drew. Adam Dunn then hit the game winning rbi double that scored Jackson for the winning run. Jackson added another run in the seventh inning on a fielders choice while Miguel Montero added a rbi single as well.

On the mound, Chad Qualls ended up getting the victory after pitching the top of the ninth inning. Qualls is now 4-8 on the season. Doug Davis was the starting pitcher for the D-backs and he threw the first six innings of the game. Davis gave up eight hits and three runs to get the no decision.

The Diamondbacks will have a huge weekend series with the Los Angeles Dodgers after having a off-day on Thursday. This series could determine who wins the West division and goes into the playoffs!

The Arizona Diamondbacks blew a 4-0 lead in the final three innings of the game as they lost to the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon. Terrible way to lose a ball game and now they are hoping for a Dodgers loss this evening.

Starting pitcher Randy Johnson allowed three runs over seven innings to get a no decision in the game. The Big Unit allowed five hits including one home run and struck out nine Padres while only walking one. Chad Qualls took the loss as he pitched the eighth inning and allowed three hits and two runs to score. Chase Headley and Jody Gerut both hit rbi singles off of Qualls in the 8th inning.

Mark Reynolds, Miguel Montero, Chris Young, and Randy Johnson all had rbi’s for the Diamondbacks. All four of the runs came in the sixth inning as Reynolds had a sac fly, Montero a triple, Young a double, and Johnson a single. The bullpen just couldn’t hold onto the lead.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Diamondbacks are up 2.5 games on the Dodgers. The Dodgers can drop that down to two games if they beat the Nationals on Wednesday night. This weekend is going to be a huge series with the D-backs and Dodgers face each other.

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Chicago Cubs for the second straight night as they won 9-2.  The game was a close one until the D-backs scored six late runs in the 7th and 8th innings and blew the game wide open.  The Diamondbacks can now sweep the Central Division leading Cubs with a victory on Wednesday.

Yusmeiro Petit improved his record to 1-1 as he tossed five innings to get the win.  Petit gave up three hits but only one run while walking four and striking out three batters.  It was a quality start for Petit who made some mistakes but also pitched well at times.

Leo Rosales, Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and newly acquired Jon Rauch all pitched one inning of relief.  Pena was the only pitcher to give up a run as gave up a solo home run to Daryle Ward in the 8th inning.  Other then that one mistake by Pena, the Diamondbacks bullpen all did a great job.

At the plate for the D-backs, they were lead by Conor Jackson who went 3-5 with three rbi.  Jackson had a solo home run in the first inning off of Jason Marquis and then added a two run double in the 8th inning when the D-backs broke the game wide open.  Stephen Drew, Orlando Hudson, Augie Ojeda, and Mark Reynolds all contributed with one rbi as well.

The Diamondbacks can sweep the Cubs without having Dan Haren or Brandon Webb throw the ball.  Now that will be a big deal if they can pull it off!  Diamondbacks Baseball Blog

The Arizona Diamondbacks were able to beat the Chicago Cubs by the score of 2-0 in a pitchers duel on Monday night.  Diamondbacks starting pitcher Randy Johnson outdueled newly acquired Cubs pitcher Rich Harden as the D-backs took the first game of the three game series.

Johnson gave up two hits through seven innings and held the Cubs scoreless to improve to 7-7.  Johnson struckout four batters and was hit hard but none of the ball left the ballpark.  The Cubs did have 5-6 long fly outs that were caught at the warning track but they just didn’t have enough to get over the wall.

Micah Owings who was scheduled to pitched on Tuesday threw a scoreless eighth inning and then Chad Qualls pitched the ninth inning to record his second save.  Qualls did have some trouble in the ninth when the Cubs got the first two runners on base with no outs but he got Derrek Lee to ground into a double play on a 2-0 count and then Aramis Ramirez grounded out to end the game.

The Diamondbacks only had two hits at the plate but they made sure both of them scored runs.  Alex Romero hit is first home run in the sixth inning off of Harden and that broke up Harden’s no-hit bid while putting the D-backs on the scoreboard 1-0.  Stephen Drew then added a rbi triple in the eighth inning off of Bob Howry and Chris Snyder scored all the way from first base.

It was a good win over a good quality team in the Cubs.  Now the D-backs will send Yusmeiro Petit to the mound on Tuesday night as they try to go up 2-0 in the series.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals played a wild game on Thursday night as both teams battled back and forth in the late innings and into extra innings.  Good news for the Diamondbacks fans though, the D-backs were able to come out on top with the 7-5 victory.

I had a big nice write up that I wrote during the eighth and ninth innings.  I sure wish I had waiting lol. Basically Dan Haren was going for the complete game shutout but let the first two runners on base and then Brandon Lyon allowed two runs to score.  In the end the game went into the 11th innings before the D-backs were able to hold on and get the victory.  Chad Qualls ended up with the victory and is now 2-6 on the season.

Chad Tracy led the team with two rbi in the game while a slew of hitters had one rbi each.  Stephen Drew, Orlando Hudson, Mark Reynolds, Mike Montero, and Alex Romero all had one rbi each.  Great output but the offense.  Of course they scored five runs in extra innings so it wasn’t like they didn’t have the chances to score a lot of runs.

The D-backs will now open up a series against the Philadelphia Phillies.  Diamondbacks Blog

It was not a very good game by the Arizona Diamondbacks but they were able to defeat the Washington Nationals by the score of 2-0 on Tuesday night.  The D-backs were lucky they were playing the Nationals and not a good team or else they would have lost more then likely.

The Diamondbacks scored two runs but only on four hits.  Chris Young had a rbi single in the third inning and then Mark Reynolds scored in the sixth inning on a Nationals error by their center fielder.  The offense struggled against the bad Nationals pitching staff.  I expect them to swing the bat better on Wednesday.

Brandon Webb was awesome however as threw six innings to pick up his 13th win of the season.  Webb is now 13-4 on the year after getting the win.  Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and Brandon Lyon all threw one inning of relief.  Lyon grabbed his 19th save of the season.

A win is a win no matter how ugly it is however.  You and I will take them anyway the team can get them.

The Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen had a game that they just want to forget as they allowed the Milwaukee Brewers to score three runs and come from behind and win the game 4-3.  Three relief pitchers each gave up one run as the Diamondbacks have now lost two out of three games to the Brewers in the series.

Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and Brandon Lyon all gave up runs in the game.  Lyon took the loss as he gave up the game winning hit / rbi to Mike Cameron in the top of the ninth inning.  Lyon is now 2-3 on the season.  Diamondbacks starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit pitched pretty good as he only gave up two his and one run over six innings of action.  It is too bad he wasn’t able to last longer in the game.

Miguel Montero got the D-backs on the board with a rbi single in second inning.  He almost had two rbi’s on the play but Chris Young was tagged out at home.  Young made up for being tagged out in the third inning when he had a rbi single that scored Orlando HudsonJustin Upton added a solo home run in the eighth inning for the Diamondbacks but it wasn’t enough at the end of the game.

The Diamondbacks will now have to win on Thursday to salvage a split in the four game series. Will they get it done?

The Arizona Diamondbacks welcomed the Milwaukee Brewers into the desert with on Monday night and they came away with a 6-3 victory as the two teams opened up a four game series.  Doug Davis pitched well enough and then the bullpen did their job as the D-backs were able to hold on for the victory.

Davis tossed 5 2/3 innings while giving up five hits and three runs to record his third win of the season.  Davis is now 3-3 on the year with a 3.79 era.  It wasn’t a great start for Davis, but he pitched well enough to keep his team in the game and that is what you ask your starting pitcher to do.

Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and Brandon Lyon all pitched great as they only allowed the Brewers to have two hits after Davis left the game.  Lyon recorded his 17th save of the season in the game.

Mark Reynolds went 3-3 in the game and finished with three rbi.  Reynolds had two doubles that scored a run each time and than added a solo home run in the ninth inning for a little insurance.  Justin Upton and Conor Jackson both added rbi’s of their own as well in the game.

Great win for the Diamondbacks as they are now 42-41 and one game above .500
