Blah, what a bad ending for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night as Jon Rauch gave up a two run home run to Jody Gerut and the San Diego Padres defeated the D-backs 4-2. The loss was very bad becase the Dodgers lost and the the Diamondbacks could have extended their lead in the division to four games. Instead they are ahead by three games.

Rauch took the loss after serving up the homerun in the bottom of he ninth inning. Starting pitcher Dan Haren gave up nine hits and two runs in seven innings of action. Haren pitched well enough to win however there just wasn’t any run support for him. Haren struckout 11 batters while only walking one. Tony Pena pitched the eighth inning without allowing a run to score.

Both of the Diamondback’s runs came in the fourth inning when Chris Snyder singled. Conor Jackson and Mark Reynolds both scored on the single by Snyder. The D-backs and Padres will play again on Tuesday evening and the Diamondbacks will send Brandon Webb to the mound.

Adam Dunn went deep once again to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 8-6. The Diamondbacks have now one the first two games in the three game series and they will be going for the sweep on Thursday night.

Dunn got the D-backs on the scoreboard in the first inning when he clubbed a three run home run to get the team back in the game as they were already down 4-0 after the top of the first inning. Chris Snyder then added a solo home run and Conor Jackson a rbi single in the second inning to put the D-backs on top by a 6-4 score. Mark Reynolds finally got the team on the scoreboard again in the seventh inning when he scored two runs with a double.

On the mound it was Dan Haren who got the win even though he had the terrible first inning where he gave up four runs. Haren gave up 11 hits and five runs but it was good enough to get his 14th win of the season. Chad Quails, Tony Pena, and Jon Rauch all pitched in relief of Haren. Rauch gave up one run but Quails and Pena both pitched scoreless innings.

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-2 on Thursday afternoon and with the win took two out of three games in Denver. It was a big win for the D-backs who are battling back and forth with the Los Angels Dodgers for the top spot in the West Division. With only sox or so weeks left in the season, every game is very big!

The D-backs blew the game open in the fifth inning when they scored five runs. Chris Snyder and Chris Burke both home home runs in the inning. Adam Dunn added a two run single to conclude the five run inning. Chris Young added a rbi double in the seventh inning to add a little bit of insurance as well.

Dan Haren picked up the victory as he tossed eight inings to impove to 13-6 on the season. Haren did a great job as he allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out nine Rockies and only walking two. Jon Rauch finished things up in the ninth inning as he shut the door on the Rockies.

Now the D-backs will travel to Houston to take on the Astros in a three game series.

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 7-3 on Wenesday night as the two teams finished up a three game series.  After losing the first game, the D-backs came back to win the next two and won the series two games to one.  That is exactly what the team needs to do right now, just keep on winning every series and things will turn out good.

Dan Haren earned the victory as he tossed seven innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. Haren is now 11-5 with a 2.62 era.  Jon Rauch and Tony Pena both pitched a scoreless inning of relief after Haren left the game.

Mark Reynolds and Chris Snyder both hit solo home runs in the eighth inning for the D-backs.  Reynolds and Chad Tracy both finished the game with two rbi while Chris Young and Snyder finished with one rbi each.

I should let everyone know that I will be gone at a computer conference for the next couple of weeks and will return on Aug 12th.  I will be unable to blog during this time so if there is a D-backs fan out there that enjoys following the team and wants to write some short game recaps similar to this one, please email me by clicking the contact us link at the top.  I can reply and send you some more information etc.

Thanks!

What a game for Doug Davis and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night!  Davis threw 7 2/3 innings while only allowing two hits and two walks and the Diamondbacks shutout the Padres to even up the three game series.

With the win Davis is now 4-5 on the season.  Jon Rauch recorded the final out of the eighth inning after Davis left the game and then Brandon Lyon came in to pitch the ninth inning and record his 22nd save of the season.  Lyon did not allow a hit while striking out two batters in the inning.

All three of the Diamondbacks runs came in the sixth inning.  Mark Reynolds reached on an error my Kevin Kouzmanoff that allowed Conor Jackson to score.  Alex Romero then singled to score Tony Clark and Reynolds.  There wasn’t much offense but it was enough to get the job done the way the pitchers threw the ball.

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Chicago Cubs for the second straight night as they won 9-2.  The game was a close one until the D-backs scored six late runs in the 7th and 8th innings and blew the game wide open.  The Diamondbacks can now sweep the Central Division leading Cubs with a victory on Wednesday.

Yusmeiro Petit improved his record to 1-1 as he tossed five innings to get the win.  Petit gave up three hits but only one run while walking four and striking out three batters.  It was a quality start for Petit who made some mistakes but also pitched well at times.

Leo Rosales, Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and newly acquired Jon Rauch all pitched one inning of relief.  Pena was the only pitcher to give up a run as gave up a solo home run to Daryle Ward in the 8th inning.  Other then that one mistake by Pena, the Diamondbacks bullpen all did a great job.

At the plate for the D-backs, they were lead by Conor Jackson who went 3-5 with three rbi.  Jackson had a solo home run in the first inning off of Jason Marquis and then added a two run double in the 8th inning when the D-backs broke the game wide open.  Stephen Drew, Orlando Hudson, Augie Ojeda, and Mark Reynolds all contributed with one rbi as well.

The Diamondbacks can sweep the Cubs without having Dan Haren or Brandon Webb throw the ball.  Now that will be a big deal if they can pull it off!  Diamondbacks Baseball Blog
