The Arizona Diamondbacks only needed two swings of the bat to beat the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. Justin Upton and Adam Dunn both hit home runs off of Giants starting pitcher Brad Hennessey to give the D-backs a 3-1 victory. With the win, the Diamondbacks are now 4.5 games out of first place as the Dodgers continue to play good baseball.

Dunn’s two-run blast came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the game was tied 1-1. Dunn came up huge for the D-backs and they need a lot more of that in the next week and a half if they want any shot at catching the Dodgers.

Doug Davis tossed seven strong innings while only allowed one run to cross the plate. The one run scored on an error by centerfielder Chris Young so it was unearned. Tony Pena tossed a scoreless eighth inning before turning things over to Chad Qualls in the ninth inning. Pena ended up with the win and is now 2-2 while Qualls picked up his fourth save of the season.

The D-backs pretty much need to win all their remaining games to have a shot at catching the Dodgers. I don’t think they will do it but you never know. Just look back to the New York Mets of last year when they faded during the last week of the season. So do you think they will catch the Dodgers? Leave us a comment and let us know!

The Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen had a game that they just want to forget as they allowed the Milwaukee Brewers to score three runs and come from behind and win the game 4-3.  Three relief pitchers each gave up one run as the Diamondbacks have now lost two out of three games to the Brewers in the series.

Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and Brandon Lyon all gave up runs in the game.  Lyon took the loss as he gave up the game winning hit / rbi to Mike Cameron in the top of the ninth inning.  Lyon is now 2-3 on the season.  Diamondbacks starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit pitched pretty good as he only gave up two his and one run over six innings of action.  It is too bad he wasn’t able to last longer in the game.

Miguel Montero got the D-backs on the board with a rbi single in second inning.  He almost had two rbi’s on the play but Chris Young was tagged out at home.  Young made up for being tagged out in the third inning when he had a rbi single that scored Orlando HudsonJustin Upton added a solo home run in the eighth inning for the Diamondbacks but it wasn’t enough at the end of the game.

The Diamondbacks will now have to win on Thursday to salvage a split in the four game series. Will they get it done?

The Arizona Diamondbacks welcomed the Milwaukee Brewers into the desert with on Monday night and they came away with a 6-3 victory as the two teams opened up a four game series.  Doug Davis pitched well enough and then the bullpen did their job as the D-backs were able to hold on for the victory.

Davis tossed 5 2/3 innings while giving up five hits and three runs to record his third win of the season.  Davis is now 3-3 on the year with a 3.79 era.  It wasn’t a great start for Davis, but he pitched well enough to keep his team in the game and that is what you ask your starting pitcher to do.

Chad Qualls, Tony Pena, and Brandon Lyon all pitched great as they only allowed the Brewers to have two hits after Davis left the game.  Lyon recorded his 17th save of the season in the game.

Mark Reynolds went 3-3 in the game and finished with three rbi.  Reynolds had two doubles that scored a run each time and than added a solo home run in the ninth inning for a little insurance.  Justin Upton and Conor Jackson both added rbi’s of their own as well in the game.

Great win for the Diamondbacks as they are now 42-41 and one game above .500

Justin Upton connected and hit a solo home run in the eighth inning off of Oakland Athletics reliever Keith Foulke to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a 2-1 victory.  Upton came up huge in the game as the Diamondbacks were able to win two out of three games against the A’s.

Besides Upton’s heroics in the eighth inning, the other Diamondbacks run came in the fourth inning when Chris Young hit a sacrafice fly that scored Upton.

Doug Davis was awesome on the mound as he pitched six innings, allowing three hits and only one run.  However since there wasn’t any run support Davis ended up getting a no decision in the game.  Tona Pena was the winning pitcher and is now 1-0 after he tossed a scoreless eighth inning.  Brandon Lyon notched his 15th save of the season as he held the A’s down in the ninth inning.

Now the Diamondbacks will get ready to face off against the Minnesota Twins this weekend.  It should be a pretty interesting series that hopefully the D-backs will come out on top.

The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three game series with the New York Mets wining two of three.  For a second straight game the Diamondbacks found some offense late and rallied against Mets’ closer Billy Wagner to tie the game late and send it to extra innings.  Today, the Diamondbacks’ were on the wining end beating the Mets 5-4 in ten innings.

Dan Harren started the game for the Diamondbacks, he went six innings giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.  The Diamondbacks’ bullpen gave up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh with Doug Slaten on the mound.  Slaten hit Damion Easley with a pitch; Ramon Castro hit a long fly ball to center that was misplayed by Chris Young, Easley would advance to third on the double.  Both Castro and Easly would score on an RBI single to center off the bat of Fernando TatisJose Reyes hit a double that advanced Tatis to third, Endy Chavez drew a walk and with one out and the bases loaded, Edgar Gonzalez came in to the game-he would get David Wright to hit a popup in foul territory on the first base side that was caught by Conner Jackson.  However, Gonzalez would have to face Carlos Beltran again, this time with the bases load, but Gonzalez won the battle when he got Beltran to fly out to centerfield.

The Diamondbacks scored two runs in the top of the eighth and Joe Smith on the mound, with one out Augie Ojeda drew a walk, but would be erased on a fielder’s choice, Orlando Hudson was safe at first, Connor Jackson hit a single to center advancing Hudson to second.  Mark Reynolds hit a triple that just missed going over the fence in center field.  Both Hudson and Jackson would score to make it 4-2.

The top of the ninth inning started when Billy Wagner walked lead off man Miguel Montero, Wagner then gave up a single to Stephen Drew.  Chris Young doubled to left, scoring Montero, and allowing Drew to advance to third.  Augie Ojeda walked to load the bases, Orlando Hudson grounded to Jose Reyes who threw Drew out at the plate.  Connor Jackson hit a grounder to Jose Reyes, who flipped the ball to second base to get the force out, but Drew would score and tie the game at four.  Wagner was able to strike out Mark Reynolds on a called third strike to end the inning, but the damage was done.  With the game tied at 4 in the top of the tenth Aaron Heilman started the inning by giving up a double to Justin Upton, Jeff Salazar moved the runner to third on a sac bunt, and Upton would score on a sac fly by Miguel MonteroBrandon Lyon shut the Mets down in the bottom of the ninth and tenth innings recording his second win of the season.

The Diamondbacks return home to start interleague play.  The Kansas City Royals will be in town.  The Diamondbacks will have Doug Davis on the mound and he will be opposed by Zack Greinke.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

Tony Pena and Chad Qualls each gave up a run in the eithth and ninth inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks blew a one run lead and lost to the San Francisco Giants by the score of 4-3.  It was too bad that the bullpen couldn’t hold things down and get Randy Johnson a win as he pitched pretty good.

Qualls gave up the game winning home run in the top of the ninth inning to Randy Winn as he took the loss and is now 0-5 on the season.  In the eighth inning, it was Pena walking Fred Lewis with the bases loaded that scored the third run for the Giants and tied the game.

Johnson had thrown seven innings of six hit baseball while giving up two runs in the game.  He was in line to get the win but the bullpen just couldn’t do their job.

Justin Upton had a solo home run and rbi triple to lead the Diamondbacks at the plate with two rbi.  Conor Jackson also had a rbi on a single in the fourth inning.

It was just a bad series for the Diamondbacks as they were swept by the Giants.  Can the D-backs bounce back this weekend as they take on the Washington Nationals?

Well that was a bad game all around for the Arizona Diamondbacks as they lost to the San Francisco Giants 11-3 on Wednesday night.  The fifth and sixth innings were like a dagger in the hear of the Diamondbacks as the Giants blew the game wide open with four runs in each of the innings.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Doug Davis was roughed up for nine hits and six runs in only five innings of action.  Davis served up a grand slam to Ray Durham before being taken out of the game.  Davis’s record is now 2-2 on the season.

The Diamondbacks bullpen wasn’t much better than Davis however.  Juan Cruz gave up three runs before leaving the game with a sore neck, Doug Slaten and Edgar Gonzalez both gave up one run before Brandon Lyon was finally able to come in and pitch a scoreless inning.

Mark Reynolds had a solo home run in the eighth inning for the Diamondbacks.  Other then that it was a two-run double by Justin Upton in the sixth inning that scored the other two runs for the D-backs.

Overall it was just a bad game for the Diamondbacks, and hopefully they will come out on Thursday afternoon and pick up a win against these same Giants.

Brandon Webb is on fire!  Webb is now 9-0 after beating the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night.  Webb gave up six hits and three runs over 7 1/3 innings but it was good enough to still get the victory as the Diamondbacks won 8-5.

Doug Slaten, Chad Qualls, Brandon Medders, and Brandon Lyon all pitched in relief of Webb.  Medders had some trouble as he gave up two runs, but then Lyon came in to get the save.  Lyon is now up to 12 saves on the season.

Chris Snyder had the big hit for the Diamondbacks as he hit a three run home run in the fifth inning.  Snyder led the D-backs with three rbi in the game.  Orlando Hudson and Justin Upton both had two rbi.  Stephen Drew made the rbi column as well as he had one rbi.

The Diamondbacks are now 26-15 in the season as they are playing really good baseball.  They will try to continue playing good this weekend as they play the struggling Detroit Tigers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks finished off the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 on Thursday afternoon as they beat the Phillies two out of three games in their three game series.

Brandon Webb improved to 8-0 on the season as he tossed a complete game.  Webb allowed six hits and three runs in the game.  He was cruising along until the ninth inning when he gave up two runs to the Phillies.  Webb still has a 2.41 era after giving up the three runs though.

Chris Young and Justin Upton both hit home runs for the Diamondbacks.

Chris Snyder had two rbi in the game as did young.  Augie Ojeda, Mark Reynolds, Chris Burke, and Upton all had one rbi each in the game.

The Diamondbacks will now travel to Chicago to take on the slumping Chicago Cubs in a three game series starting on Friday.  Diamondbacks Blog

Randy Johnson pitched five innings and struckout seven batters as he made his 2008 debut on Monday night against the San Francisco Giants.  Too bad for Johnson, that the bullpen couldn’t hold onto the lead and the Diamondbacks went on to lose 5-4.

Chad Qualls gave up two runs in the 7th inning to take the loss and give Johnson the no-decision.  Other then that the pitchers did a decent job against the Giants.  I would have liked to see Johnson have a little better control as he did walk four batters, but for his first time on the mound I think he did a pretty good job.

Conor Jackson got the Diamondbacks on the board in the 1st inning with a two-run home run.  He then singled in the 3rd inning to score another run.  Justin Upton then singled and scored Jackson.  Jackson finished with three RBI, and Upton with one RBI.
